German manufacturer Arburg has acquired a RUD Tecdos TM Tool Mover for its headquarters in Lossburg (Baden-Württemberg). The RUD equipment turns and rotates tools weighing several tonnes, at the touch of a button.
Arburg has more than 30 injection moulding machines and 3D printers for additive manufacturing. “When tools arrive at our premises, they are usually inverted so, they must be turned 90 degrees for testing. This is now done by the RUD Tecdos TM Tool Mover,” said Roland Gruber from Arburg. The company also uses the tool mover during the commissioning of turnkey projects, such as when a customer uses a machine and mould before delivery. Items weighing 0.2-10 tonnes can be handled safely.
“Our focus was clearly on increasing work safety and ergonomics for our team,” added Gruber, who said that time savings realised by using the RUD Tool Mover are a nice side effect. Onsite, the handling processes has changed fundamentally. Previously, employees used to drive the tool to the crane and to the attachment points. Now the employees can bring the Tool Mover into place using a forklift or pallet truck, and it can be transported between the various halls at the Arburg facility.
