April 2 - Three and a half years after crane manufacturer Terex anounced its decision to build a 1,000 tonne capacity telescopic boom mobile crane, the company has launched its AC 1000 crane.
At about 50 percent stronger than the previous largest Terex wheeled telescopic mobile crane, much of its use is expected to be in the field of wind turbine erection and maintenance. Most AC 1000 models are expected to be delivered with 100 m boom and full luffing jib. The maximum boom and jib combination length on preliminary charts gives a hook height of 163.3 m.
Designers at Terex's Zweibrücken manufacturing plant in Germany worked with potential AC 1000 customers from an early stage. One of these was Ainscough Crane Hire, the UK's largest mobile crane rental company, which is due to get its two units in the first half of 2010.
