Project Profile: The 893 MW Keadby 2 gas-fired CCGT power station in North Lincolnshire (United Kingdom) has been commissioned by SSE Thermal. The combined-cycle gas turbine plant's construction began in August 2018, with Siemens Energy supplying a 9000HL 50Hz turbine for the project. The power plant received a 15-year capacity agreement at a de-rated capacity of 804 MW in March 2020 through the UK's Capacity Auction procedure.

Keadby 2, which has already begun supplying power to the grid throughout the commissioning phase, will add flexibility to the British electrical system, complementing the growing quantity of renewable output on the grid. SSE is investigating options for decarbonizing Kearby 2, including the possibility of blending hydrogen into the plant as a first step.

SSE Thermal and Equinor are developing Keadby, a 910 MW CCGT project with a carbon capture and storage (CCS) plant to eliminate CO2 emissions, on the same site. The facility might be operating by 2027. The site also houses the 735 MW Keadby 1 gas-fired power station, which was built in 1996.
