June 23 - United Africa Feeder Line (UAFL) has appointed Simba Africa Maritime (SAM) to be its agents in South Africa from August 1 this year, replacing Seaclad Maritime.
SAM is part of the Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL)/UAFL group, and this appointment will enable the creation of better synergies within the group of companies, says the shipping line.
In an official statement, the line said: "In the interests of a smooth transition, the hand-over of the agency will commence with effect from July 18, so that all systems in SAM are up and running by the date of the formal hand over on August 1," said a statement issued today by UAFL management.
Devin Schoeman and Connie Pillay - two key staff members from Seaclad Maritime - will be joining SAM to "ensure continuity and uninterrupted service" to all UAFL shippers and clients, said UAFL.
UAFL is currently operating self sustained, single deck multipurpose geared vessels, all of which have the ability to load dry, hazardous and reefer cargoes, and accommodate heavy lifts project cargoes with the use of ship's cranes in tandem.
