According to media reports, Triumph Group is winding down the production of parts for Boeing’s 747 aircraft.
Last month, Triumph Group reportedly held an online auction for the equipment at its southern California facilities that manufactured and supplied fuselage sections and other components for the 747.
Next year, Triumph will also close a plant in Dallas that makes the tail section for the aircraft.
Parts for Boeing’s backlog of orders, totalling 18 aircraft, will still be supplied by Triumph but the company will soon face the decision of either finding other suppliers, or moving the production work of these parts in-house.
This will rely on whether Boeing is able to secure more freighter orders to once again save the 747.
