Three shipping and ship-management firms within the NYK Group will merge as part of a strategic business integration.
Asahi Shipping, Hachiuma Steamship, and Mitsubishi Ore Transport are to unite as one, with amalgamation expected by January 2026. A provisional corporate name for the merger is NYK Bulkship Partners.
The merger intends on leveraging the businesses’ strengths within their specialised business areas, ultimately enhancing competitiveness in ship management, ship ownership, and ship operations.
Owning 22 vessels within a total of 91 managed vessels, the company’s head office will be in Tokyo, with business bases in both Tokyo and Kobe too.
Shareholder meetings will take place at each of the companies so that the business move can be comprehensively mapped out.
In January 2025, HLPFI reported that NYK and Akita Eisen formed a joint venture that will provide ship maintenance and management services for offshore wind power projects.
