July 7 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe has begun the modernisation of its Duisburg-Bruckhausen steel plant.
As part of the project a Wagenborg crane was used to lift four boiler segments, the largest of which weighed 50 tonnes and measured 4.3 m in diameter, to a height of 90 m so they could be installed in the upgraded facility.
Dr. Arnd Köfler, head of crude steel at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe, said the modernisation project required an investment of EUR21 million (USD28.5 million) and "it will further enhance the quality of our products and ultimately benefit our customers."
