May 28 - Subsea 7 has signed a contract for a new heavy construction vessel, set for delivery in 2016.
The new vessel will have a 2,600 sq m deck area for equipment carriage, a 600-tonne active heavy compensated offshore crane, a 325-tonne top tension vertical lay system, as well as a 7,000-tonne under-deck basement for storage of pipes, umbilicals and cables. The newbuild will feature a DP3 (dynamic positioning) system for accurate and safe vessel positioning while conducting offshore lifting operations.
According to Subsea 7, the new vessel will be one of the most capable in its fleet and will be deployed globally to meet the demand for ever-larger and complex projects.
South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries will construct the new vessel. Huisman will deliver the main crane and vertical lay system.
"This is another investment in our world class fleet so that we can continue to meet our clients' demands for executing larger, more complex projects in deep and ultra-deepwater and in harsher environments," comments Steve Wisley, executive vice president at Subsea 7.
