UK-based port operator Solent Stevedores is expanding its activities into France with the creation of Saint-Malo Stevedores.
The company is currently active in 13 port locations. It plans to invest EUR1 million (USD1.2 million) in new equipment at the port of Saint-Malo, having secured a EUR200,000 (USD240,615) grant from the Brittany region. The equipment will include tugs for ro-ro operations, forklifts and a loading shovel.
Saint-Malo Stevedores will specifically support dry bulk and breakbulk cargo handling activities.
Hans Uiterdijk, director of Saint-Malo Stevedores, said: “We have a real opportunity to develop operations beyond the current cargo traffic that we are seeing and we hope that with the experience brought into the port from Solent Stevedores, we could potentially create some synergies to import cargo from the UK.”
