Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has opened an office in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, as it looks to grow further in East Africa.
Tanzania is deemed a regional gateway to the likes of landlocked Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, and DR Congo. SGL will utilise the port of Dar es Salaam as an entrance to the region.
SGL sees East Africa as a rapidly developing region and, by having a physical presence in Tanzania, this should allow the company to build stronger ties with local businesses, governments, and NGOs – ultimately bringing about more trust and further collaboration. With Tanzania witnessing an expansion in trade in agriculture, mining, and infrastructure – including roads, railways, and ports – there has been, and is, an increased need and demand for logistics providers to take on the country’s changing supply chain needs.
“I believe the Tanzanian market has a growing need for a strong local presence, and this investment positions us better to support our overseas partners,” said Lars Syberg ceo EMEA excl. Nordics at SGL. “The timing is right for SGL to establish itself here, enabling us to accommodate the significant growth we anticipate in the East African region.”
Jan Andersson, who will be the managing director in Tanzania, added: “I’m looking forward to entering the Tanzanian market, as it enables us to meet the growing demand from our customers. Since we entered Kenya one year ago, it has become evident that many of our customers also have branches in Tanzania, presenting us with clear growth opportunities.”
In Tanzania, SGL will offer end-to-end solutions for ocean, air, project, road, warehousing, Customs clearance, domestic, and transit services to landlocked countries within Africa.
Last month, HLPFI reported that SGL had bolstered its portfolio in Canada with the acquisition of ITN.
