UK-headquartered Osprey Group has signed a GBP3 million (USD3.7 million) shipbuilding contract for two offshore barges – Osprey Bouwer and Osprey Fabrique.
The barges, which will be able to handle oversized and heavy cargoes, will have a deck strength of 20 tonnes per sq m and will come equipped with two 23 m-long spud poles. The barges will join Osprey’s fleet in the first quarter of 2021. They will measure 50 m long and will have a depth of 3 m.
Osprey said that it has the UK’s largest, independently owned barge fleet, including ocean-going barges for deepsea programmes. Osprey Bouwer and Osprey Fabrique will be used by the company to transport components for the renewable energy and nuclear construction industries.
The ABS unrestricted sailing area-classified barges will be deployed on projects in France, Morocco and the Eastern Mediterranean.
