Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist, Optimarin, delivered more than 60 units of its Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) in 2017, making it the company's most successful year to date.
Taking into accounts last year's orders, Optimarin has now sold 550 systems, with around 440 delivered worldwide. Optimarin ceo, Tore Andersen, believes the next few years will see these numbers increase significantly, as shipowners move to comply with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention.
"Our experience of retrofitting has also been key," adds Andersen, continuing: "We've now performed more than 130 retrofit installations, so owners know we are a trusted choice for ensuring that existing ships comply, no matter what space restrictions they have."
OBS is fully approved by both the IMO and United States Coast Guard (USCG), with certification through DNV GL, Lloyd's, RINA, Bureau Veritas, MLIT Japan, and American Bureau of Shipping.
