Finnish shipping company Meriaura has signed an agreement with Stockholm Exergi for the transport of wood chips and wood pellets using its biofuel-powered EcoCoaster vessels.
This is the company’s first commercial contract based on its 2016-built EcoCoaster vessels, which operate within the Baltic Sea and are powered by waste-based or recycled second-generation biofuels.
Meriaura, which transports industrial bulk, recycled and raw materials, and project cargoes, offers all its customers an option to sign low-emission contracts for a premium that equals the price differential between marine gas oil (MGO) and EcoFuel.
“The door is now open, and we are eager to promote this concept for our other customers as well. Step by step we can change the shipping business to become sustainable” said Beppe Rosin, Meriaura’s managing director.
Meriaura will also provide calculations on CO2 reductions achieved by choosing this contract type.
