March 29 - Lufthansa Cargo Charter Agency has come to aid of parent company Lufthansa Cargo with a doubling of profits last year despite the loss of a third of revenue.
That was the message at the company's recent Frankfurt press conference as parent company Lufthansa Cargo announced record losses of €171 million (USD229 million) for its 2009 financial year.
Business activity for the charter arm was strong for three main reasons: international charter activities are gaining momentum as there is a noticeable shortage of uplift in some markets; shippers are moving to replenish stocks and inventories in RDCs around the world; and crises in Haiti and Chile have required urgent maindeck activity.
