LiftWerx Solutions, a specialist in heavy lift technology and lifting solutions for wind turbine repair works, has launched the BoxHook up-tower crane.
The crane is designed for wind turbines in the 3-8 MW range and has a lifting capacity of up to 100 tonnes.
Mounted at tower heights up to 175 m, LiftWerx said the BoxHook crane will reduce repair costs for both onshore and offshore wind turbines.
Compatible with LiftWerx’s GenHook cranes, the engineering company added that the crane is easy to assemble and can perform corrective repairs for gearboxes, generators, transformers and other major components.
For offshore repair operations, LiftWerx explained that up-tower crane is capable of completing works that would previously require a jack-up crane vessel.
HLPFI readers will recall that the Canadian contractor has also partnered with wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to develop the RotorHook up-tower crane, capable of lifting a fully-assembled wind turbine rotor and main shaft.
According to LiftWerx, production of the first RotorHook unit is well under way at its facilities in the Netherlands and Canada. The fully electric crane, which will be powered by the wind turbine itself, offers a lifting capacity of 75 tonnes.
