Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) has been awarded a contract working with Shimizu for the transport and installation of monopile foundations for the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind farm off the west coast of central Taiwan.
The wind farm will feature 80 wind turbines. Construction operations will start in February 2024 and FOWIC estimates that the total duration of the project will be 200 days.
FOWIC, in corporation with Shimizu, will use its vessel Blue Wind for the project. The vessel is currently engaged in the Ishikari Bay New Port offshore wind farm project, one of the largest commercial offshore wind farms in Japan featuring 14 wind turbines (8 MW each). The vessel will start preparation for the Yunlin offshore wind farm project from December 2023.
FOWIC established a partnership with Shimizu back in 2021 to strengthen its position in the offshore wind industry in the APAC region. Both companies have a background in civil engineering and offshore/marine construction.
