Mike Meierkort has been appointed as head of Americas at freight forwarder Damco.

He has more than 32 years of experience in the logistics industry, having held senior roles with Panalpina, Vanguard Logistics, and, most recently, Livingston International.

He will oversee the launch of the Damco rescue programme in the USA – an initiative that includes a ‘park and save’ option for customers that need short-term assistance when supply chains are congested, and a ‘strip and store’ option for cargo without a functional receiving location.

These two service offerings will help ease supply chain congestion caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, said Damco.

“The new rescue programme is the result of agile thinking supported by the investment we have made over the last 18 months into building a robust business resilience programme, which supports us as we keep cargo moving, as well as making sure our people are safe,” explained Saskia Groen-in’t-Woud, ceo at Damco.

The company has organised multiple charters between Asia, Europe and the USA recently, moving medical supplies in the global fight against Covid-19.
