Global supplier of maritime and digital data and compliance services, ChartCo, has selected MeteoGroup to provide its weather routing technology services through its OneOcean platform.
OneOcean is ChartCo’s software platform for e-navigation, route and passage planning, environmental compliance, data management and a broad range of other services.
The MeteoGroup services, meanwhile, enable ships to navigate the globe with minimal fuel consumption and emissions, by calculating and recalculating optimum routes and anticipating oncoming weather and sea conditions.
A tailored software development kit (SDK) from MeteoGroup, based on its ship performance optimisation system (SPOS), will fuel the growing range of services within the OneOcean platform.
Martin Taylor, ceo of ChartCo, said: “Our quest was to build a flexible, cost-effective, integrated weather offering suitable for a wide range of vessels.” He said the MeteoGroup-powered weather routing system utilises various data sources, including the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the UK Met Office and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
