Dutch offshore engineering contractor Boskalis enjoyed a record year in 2024, with revenue marginally up, EBITDA and net profit both up 30 percent, and the orderbook up 16.66 percent on 2023’s financial figures. The company will also appoint a new ceo in April
Revenue increased from EUR4.3 billion (USD4.7 billion) in 2023 to EUR4.4 billion (USD4.81 billion) in 2024, meanwhile EBITDA increased from EUR1 billion (USD1.09 billion) to EUR1.3 billion (USD1.42 billion), and net profit jumped up from EUR601 million (USD656.53 million) to EUR781 million (USD853.16 million).
“2024 was an extremely good year for Boskalis with all parts of the company performing exceptionally well. In every corner of the world, we sailed the waters white,” said Peter Berdowski, ceo at Boskalis.
Boskalis’ marine transport and services business unit, in 2024, completed projects such as disconnecting and towing a large FPSO from Brazil to Europe, Boka Vanguard transporting the FPSO Opportunity to Türkiye, and then collecting the Fremantle Highway and delivering it to China for repairs.
In its financial report, Boskalis highlighted the importance of the offshore energy sector over the past 12 months, with the sector responsible for a 10 percent revenue increase from EUR1.8 billion (USD1.97 billion) to EUR2 billion (USD2.18 billion). Of this, offshore wind projects made up approximately 50 percent of revenue. During 2024, the East Coast of the US saw the most significant foundation installation projects, whilst subsea cables were predominantly used for projects in Germany and the Netherlands.
The orderbook, initially at EUR6 billion (USD6.55 billion) in 2023, rose to EUR7 billion (USD7.65 billion) in 2024. Much of this is put down to the acquisition of the remaining 50 percent share in fellow Dutch firm, Smit Lamnalco, in October 2024.
Effective April 1, 2025, Peter Berdowski will step down as ceo of Boskalis. He will be succeeded by Theo Baartmans, a member of the board of management since 2007. Berdowski will be appointed chairman of the supervisory board as of the same date.
Earlier this month, Boskalis widened its semi-submersible heavy transport vessel, Boka Vanguard.
