BIMCO will open an office in London, UK, at the beginning of 2021 to support the organisation’s regulatory affairs activities.
Dr. Bev Mackenzie will take up the role of BIMCO’s permanent representative at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) from February 1, 2021. She will report to Lars Robert Pedersen, secretary general at BIMCO’s Copenhagen office.
BIMCO said Dr. Mackenzie will ensure a more proactive relationship with the IMO secretariat in London and will contribute to the organisation’s marine environment team, applying her marine scientific knowledge.
Sadan Kaptanoglu, BIMCO president, said that the opening of a London branch is the next logical step for BIMCO: “To serve our member’s interests the best we can, BIMCO needs to maintain even closer relations with people, companies, and organisations in one of the world’s key shipping hubs.”
BIMCO added that the broader intention of the presence in London is to enhance capacity in the increasingly important policy and regulatory field.
BIMCO has three other offices in Athens, Shanghai, and Singapore, and a fifth local office is under consideration.
