Equinor Energy selected Allseas for the removal, transfer, load-in and disposal of the 48,000-tonne Statfjord A platform topsides.
For the project, Allseas will deploy its installation and decommissioning vessel Pioneering Spirit, which will remove the topsides from the concrete gravity-based substructure in one piece sometime after 2022.
One of the largest platforms on the Norwegian continental shelf, Statfjord A stands in 149 m of water in the centre of the Statfjord field, located in the northern North Sea.
In total, the topsides measure 84 m long and 54 m wide.
Prior to the lifting operation, Allseas will increase the capacity of the vessel’s topsides lifting system (TLS) from the current 48,000 tonnes in order to take into account any weight deviations.
Allseas has selected Kvaerner to demolish the topsides at its Stord disposal facility on the west coast of Norway.
The topsides will be transferred from Pioneering Spirit to Allseas’ special-purpose barge Iron Lady for towage to the yard. The topsides will then be skidded onto the quay.
