Schmidbauer has mobilised a Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane to the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven where it will be used to handle project cargo.
The 600-tonne capacity crane has been positioned at the terminal since May and will stay there until early August. BLG High & Heavy will use the crane to load a 333-ton (302.1-tonne) turbine from the quay on to a barge for onward transportation.
The disassembled crane was delivered to Bremen in 35 truckloads. Upon arrival, both Schmidbauer and BLG completed the assembly. Comprehensive calculations of the ground pressure had been prepared ahead of the arrival of the crane. According to Schmidbauer, the pressure is subject to the configuration of the crane, the weight of load, and the working radius.
The LR 1600/2 has already been used to unload a 226-ton (205-tonne) generator from a barge. SPMTs from BLG’s fleet were then used to load the generator on board a ro-ro vessel for onward transportation to Australia.
The transhipment of the 302.1-tonne turbine is scheduled to take place at the end of June. According to Schmidbauer, it will set a new weight record for the terminal.
